Warner Brothers unleashed gigantic mutant ants in Them! David Weisbart produced and Gordon Douglas directed Ted Sherdeman's screenplay. The musical score is by Bronislau Kaper. The terrifying sounds made by the giant ants are brilliantly effective. The special effects received an Academy Award nomination. James Whitmore plays the patrolman and James Arness is the FBI investigator. Edmund Gwenn plays the befuddled professor Medford. Joan Weldon is Dr. Pat Medford, his daughter. From the moment the patrolmen follow the little girl to the deserted and mysteriously wrecked trailer, until the scenes in the storm drains under Los Angeles, suspense is admirably sustained.
