Destination Moon was the first of the George Pal Sci-Fi spectaculars. Erving Pichel directed and Leith Stevens provided the musical score. The screenplay by Rip Van Ronkel, Robert A. Heinlein, and James O'Hanlon was based on Robert A. Heinlein's novel. The actors are John Archer, Warner Anderson, Tom Powers, Dick Wesson, and Erin O'Brien-Moore. The Academy Award winning special effects are credited to Lee Zavitz. George Pal's early efforts to portray space travel realistically are top notch. He did not foresee NASA, however, and credits the moon landing to private industry. The cartoon sequence starring Woody Woodpecker was created for the film by Walter Lantz.
