When Worlds Collide won an Oscar for its special effects. The second George Pal venture into science fiction was directed by Rudolph Maté. The actors are Richard Derr, Barbara Rush, Peter Hanson, John Hoyt, Larry Keating, Judith Ames, Stephen Chase, Frank Cady, Hayden Rorke, and Sandro Giglio. Sydney Boehm based his screenplay on a novel by Edwin Balmer and Philip Wylie. Paramont Pictures filmed it in Technicolor. The star Bellus and the planet Zyra are hurtling toward the Earth on a collision course.
