Rocketship X-M was one of the first science fiction films to deal with space travel and manned expeditions to the moon. Rocketship X-M was written, produced, and directed by Kurt Neumann in black and white on a meager budget. It stars Lloyd Bridges, Osa Massen, Hugh O'Brien, and Noah Beery, Jr. Jack Rabin created the special photographic effects. Ferde Grofé composed the excellent musical score. A moon mission encounters unexpected difficulties and manages to land on Mars instead. They discover the humanoid survivors of nuclear war. At the time of the film's release in 1950 many people considered manned space flight impossible or impractical. Few people at that time would have believed that men would walk on the moon in only nineteen years.
