R5642 is built to full R3 specs with the optional "Powershift" automatic transmission, a rear axle ratio of 3.54:1, and disc brakes manufactured by Bendix under license from Dunlop. This car has the optional quick-ratio steering with no power assist and it rolls on a set of 15-inch Halibrand magnesium knock-off alloy wheels - a Studebaker option for 1964. The interior is finished in metallic red upholstery with black carpeting and shows the R3's 8,000-rpm tach, instead of the 6,000-rpm tach found on standard Avanti models. The seats are true buckets and the window posts and other sections of the interior, including the roll bar, are protected with foam-backed stitched vinyl, not moulded plastic. |
