The Avanti
Era Years
1962-1964
in Review
Between January 1962 and December 1964 the Studebaker Avanti went from a bold inspiration, to a fast and elegant production automobile, to a premature discontinuation. What else was happening in American pop culture during that interval? Late in 1962 the world teetered on the brink of nuclear war over the Cuban Missle Crisis. On August 28th Martin Luther King delivered his "I have a dream" speech on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. In November of 1963 President Kennedy was assasinated in Dallas, Texas. Throughout 1964 the Civil Rights Movement continued and the conflict in Vietnam escalated.
