Studebaker Signs
Opening the 46.5 in.-wide doors reveals the Studebaker Avanti's spacious interior. Contoured bucket seats enhance the front passenger compartment. These provide 36 in. of head room and a maximum 47 in. of legroom. The rear seat is a semi-contoured bench, mounted 3 in. higher than the front buckets. Safety belt anchors are provided for all seats. The padded dash was a safety feature that would not appear in other makes for several years. The black gauges glow red when lit. A complete set of dials, including an electric clock, tachometer, and vacuum gauge are standard equipment. The instruments include a manifold pressure-vacuum guage; the speedometer reads to 140 m.p.h. (the R2 had a 160 m.p.h. speedometer) and the rev-counter reads to 6,000 r.p.m., but it is redlined at 5,000. The panel is concave and shaded by a cowl extending from the hood. Light and heat/air controls are mounted in the center of the windshield header, aircraft fashion. A glove compartment houses a vantity case with a pop-up mirror. Built into the fiberglass roof is a steel roll bar, padded on the side exposed to the passenger compartment. Open Color Scheme Combinations to view samples
